Data Size Converter

Convert bits, bytes, SI (KB/MB/GB/TB), and IEC (KiB/MiB/GiB/TiB) sizes instantly in your browser.

Tool workspace

SI units (KB, MB, GB, TB) use powers of 1000. IEC units (KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB) use powers of 1024. Labels never treat KB as KiB.

Conversion runs in your browser among bits, bytes, SI, and IEC units. Values are not sent to our servers.

Converted values

SI (decimal, ×1000)

IEC (binary, ×1024)

How it works

Enter a value and choose the source unit: bits, bytes (B), SI kilobyte–terabyte (KB/MB/GB/TB = 1000ⁿ bytes), or IEC kibibyte–tebibyte (KiB/MiB/GiB/TiB = 1024ⁿ bytes). The tool pivots through bytes. Exactly 8 bits = 1 byte.

SI and IEC are labeled separately so KB is never treated as KiB (1 KB = 1000 B; 1 KiB = 1024 B).

Results update as you type (light debounce). Empty input clears the results—no error. Non-numeric or negative input shows a validation message instead of a wrong number.

Displayed values keep up to 10 decimal places and drop trailing zeros. Use Sample for 1 MB (SI).

Examples

  • 1 KB → 1000 B (SI)
  • 1 KiB → 1024 B (IEC)
  • 8 bits → 1 B
  • 1 MB → 0.9536743164 MiB
  • 1 TiB → 1099511627776 B

FAQ

Is my value uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Values are not sent to Every Tools.

What is the difference between KB and KiB?

KB is SI (decimal): 1 KB = 1000 bytes. KiB is IEC (binary): 1 KiB = 1024 bytes. Operating systems and storage vendors often mix these labels—this tool keeps them distinct.

How many bits are in a byte?

Exactly 8 bits = 1 byte.
